Jerame C. Reid Killed with Hands Up by New Jersey Police Officer (Video)
36 years old Jerame Reid was killed December 30th after a routine traffic violation stop. Officer Braheme Days approaches the vehicle asking for license and registration to write up the driver for running a stop sign. Once the driver opens his glove compartment, Officer Days sees a gun and things escalde from there. Little do we know Officer Days and Jerame Reid have history together before this incident.
Review:
To begin, Jerame Reid and the driver are seen pausing at the stop sign and hitting their brakes however they did not completely stop so the officers did have the right to pull them over.
Moving forward, the first ironic issue we see is Officer Days decision to go to the passenger side door of the vehicle rather than the person who is driving the car.
Next problem is at (2:53) in the clip when we hear Officer Days call out Jerame Reid's name with no previous knowledge given to him about who he is.
The third issue we see is Officer Days initial comment to his partner Officer Roger Worley at (2:26) stating "Get 'em out the car, Rog. We got a gun in this glove compartment." However we dont see the officers allow the men to get out of the car.
Being sure that we are not bias, Jerame Reid should have been obedient to Officer Roger Worley's last statement saying "Don't Move" before forcing his way out of the vehicle.
However the more predictable and standard way of dealing with an issue of this manner would be for the officer to get the men out of the vehicle first then have them lay on the ground or stand up with their hands away from their body until they were sure the men did not have any other weapons.
