Civil Rights Activist Protest on Major Georgia Highway I-75/85 North
On Wednesday October 22nd, African Amercian protesters decided to take their stand to the major I-75/85 North highway of Atlanta Georgia. The reason for their protest was to continue the march that happened on Woodruff Park on National Day of Protest. However, unlike the Woodruff Park protest this stand on the highway caused a lot more commotion and media attention. We had the opportunity to speak with one of the main protesters of this event and she told us "The rally, march and protest was made for the brave souls who have been standing for Mike Brown and the arrest of the police officer Darren Wilson. Overall the inequality and unjust discrimination that has been going on in our society since blacks have been enslaved and considered 'property'."
The protest consisted of: 7 main frontline warriors dressed in all black, 4 fearless drivers stopping their cars to block oncoming traffic from hitting protesters, 1 police liaison to consult with law enforcement and a countless number of supporters gathering to help the cause.
The frontline warrior we spoke with said "the police were respectful aside from the first officer that came to the scene offensively looking to arrest and interrogate them. They only asked that we moved up so people could use the closest exit to get off."
Besides that the police condoned with the protest and their cause. For 40mins protesters blocked 4 lanes, allowing people to only pass through the HOV lane and the nearest exit.
