Pharrell Offends Native Americans On 'Elle' Latest Magazine Cover
The 'Happy' singer Pharrell surprisingly has a lot of people not to happy with his recent photo-shoot for 'Elle' magazine cover.
On the July Cover of 'Elle' Pharrell is featured wearing a Native American headdress which sparked a lot of controversy from the Native American community.
"Headresses are Not costumes" was continuously said by many people who were offended towards the photo. Some offenders even went to social media using hashtag #NotHappy to express their feelings towards the idolized singer/producer.
The photo was taken by photographer Doug Inglish. When the cover was first released on Elle.com they had a caption quoting "We persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to trade his Vivienne Westwood mountie hat for a native American headdress in his best ever shoot."
However, now the site has taken down the quote replacing it with "Continuing our tradition of featuring cult male icons on collector's edition covers we persuaded ELLE Style Award winner pharrell to collaborate with us on his best ever shoot."
Not much of a difference but a bit more "user friendly".
Pharrell has apologized for the cover and the misleading disrespect taken from it saying, "I respect and honor every kind of race, background, and culture. I am genuinely sorry".
